Caution Reviews, Protests and Appeals

Post by jeromef1 » Mon Aug 03, 2020 8:25 pm

On Track Reviews and Procedures
  1. On track incidents should be avoided at all costs.
  2. On track incidents that result in a caution will be automatically reviewed by the Oval Stewards and will be ruled on 48 hours following the race.
  3. On track incidents that do not cause a caution can still be reviewed. Please submit a protest using the Protest Form on the PRL website.
  4. Race Start and Caution Restarts will also be reviewed by the Steward team for early 3-wide and Lead Car speed violations.
  5. PRL's Racing Rules and iRacing's Sporting Code are in effect for all official races through the season.
  6. Stewards will issue a Caution Point value against a driver(s) found at fault for initiating the caution, as well as drivers maneuvering carelessly or recklessly that lead to other drivers getting involved in the caution. Please refer to the Rules Document for a full explanation.
  7. Any driver who is issued an EOL start penalty shall not qualify. Drivers caught doing so will be issued a black flag and will have to serve a drive-thru penalty.
  8. Any driver who gets DSQ for not serving a black flag during the race will be placed in last and all points will be removed, and the race will not count as a drop week. If you receive a black flag in the final moments of a race and do not have time to serve it, you must contact the race organizers immediately so the appropriate action can be taken.
  9. You have the right to Appeal a caution decision if you feel the original ruling was incorrect. Contact will Charles Sumner withing 48 hours of the rulings being posted to Appeal a ruling. The entire Steward Team will review the incident and will cast a vote, in which the majority vote will be the final verdict. Losing an Appeal will place a 30-day restriction in place where you may not Appeal a verdict again.

Race 1: Bristol

Steward Rulings:
  • The Stewards reviewed the Lap 4 caution. The Stewards have found Richard Regan at fault for moving to the right across the nose of Keith Haney on the exit of T4.
  • The Stewards reviewed the Lap 56 caution. The Stewards have found Brandon Adams at fault for getting into the wall on the exit of T4. While the wall contact did not cause a loss of control, it did not give Colton Layne time to check up and avoid contact with the rear of Brandon. Due to creating the check up event, the Stewards are issuing a partial caution poin to Brandon.
  • The Stewards reviewed the Lap 87 caution. The Stewards have found Rob Besaw at fault for getting loose off of the exit of T4 and creating contact with Danny Cervantes.
  • The Stewards reviewed a protest of intentional contact under caution on Lap 88 between James Duke and Brett Adams. The Stewards have ruled that James Duke did make purposeful and unnecessary contact while under caution that resulted in a 4x. Due to this breach of the PRL's Code of Conduct, James Duke will be issued a 1 race suspension.
  • The Stewards reviewed the Lap 93 caution. The Stewards have found Richard Regan at fault for losing control of his vehicle in T3/4.
  • The Stewards reviewed the Lap 132 caution. The lead up to the caution was a 3 wide situation with Doyle Lowrance as a lapped car on the high side on the exit of T4. Doyle (lapped at the time) lifted in an attempt to avoid contact with Colton Layne and give room to the lead lap car the was close to making contact. That lift did not give Brenden Chatley adequate time to avoid contact with the rear of Doyle, which resulted in a spin. Due to the chain reaction nature of this incident with non the drivers making a move that the Stewards deemed worthy of a penalty, no caution point will be issued for this caution.
  • The Stewards reviewed the Lap 141 caution. The Stewards have found Colton Layne at fault for getting loose off of the exit of T4 and creating contact with Rob Besaw.
  • The Stewards reviewed the Lap 148 caution. The Stewards have found Chad Brown at fault for moving left on the backstretch and creating contact with Derek Schilling. While at fault for the contact, the Stewards noted that Derek's car acted in a drastic matter that was not consistent with the contact that was created. Due to that ruling, Chad Brown will only receive a partial caution point for the contact created.
  • The Stewards reviewed the caution on the Lap 153 caution. The Stewards have found Greg Korzen at fault for creating wheel spin on a down shift, that lead to a chain reaction event. The Stewards have also found Greg at fault for not holding his brakes while spun around and allowing his car to drift back up the track and create contact with other vehicles. The Stewards are issuing Greg Korzen a full caution point for both actions combined in this caution.
  • Warning for unnecessary (argumentative) comms during the race: Richard Regan, Keith Haney, James Duke
Penalties to be served next race:
  • For actions against PRL's Code of Conduct, James Duke will serve a 1 race suspension at Las Vegas.
  • For being charges with 2 cautions in one race, Richard Regan will serve a 1 race suspension at Las Vegas.
  • The following drivers were charged with a full caution at Bristol and must not qualify at Las Vegas: Colton Layne, Greg Korze and Robert Besaw
