Well that was certainly interesting... only just managed to collect my thoughts from it actually!
Quali went much better than expected, was 13th or 14th on the wet runs which was about where I had expected to be. After coming in I saw a few people coming out on slicks and Glenn was saying it was getting drier on the stream so I strapped on a set of Ultras and went for a run. First fast lap on them put me 2nd but I quickly got knocked back to 9th after subsequent laps from other people as I was still quite cautious through a few corners.
Start of the race I got a bit distracted trying to get into Rich mix to notice the lights go out until just before and was only able to get an okay start and moved up a place or two only thanks to Aiden's problems. SC came out soon after that and as I was still on worn Ultrasofts I came it and switched to Supers, which I think was the right decision but one I should have made a few laps later.
Next stint did go alright but (I think it was at this point, although it's all a bit of a blur) my front wing got knocked after the SC and I came back in as I got to red on my right-front and knew that would cost me time on the long infield corners so to stay competitive I came in and changed my wing and swapped to a new set of Supers. After that I think everything went okay until the next SC...
Okay, so SC No.2 came out at a perfect time for me as I was already coming in that lap and was on the straight before the pit entry. Working on the assumption (that I think is correct, although please do correct me as this could very much impact my future races on this game) that being red on your delta won't give you a penalty if you're go in the pits before the time runs out, I raced down towards pit entry and tried to break at the usual time with only a couple of seconds left when I almost ran into Yarm who was probably actually doing the right thing and coming in with a green delta, but it meant that I ended up with a Drive-through even though I was half-a-second away from the line. No hard feelings to Yarm though as that was my fault and I probably shouldn't have tried it
Anyway so after that I followed the SC around and after a couple of laps people started pitting for Inters, and when the SC came in I came in with a couple of others and tried to swap my tyres. However, I completely forgot about my Drive-through which meant I had to go through and come back around the next lap to go onto the Inters which meant 2 laps after the SC came in I was already down 40 seconds from the lead and down in 15th or so.
After that nothing really happened in my race as I couldn't catch the battle in front and I was getting rather distracted by Glenn and Aiden's screaming about the Phil/Millix battle and was having a great battle with someone who turned out to be a lap down! (Ulub, I think it was. Good race by the way, even if it didn't mean anything!)
Final bit of fun came on lap 35/36 when out of the final corner I put my foot down to early, veered across the circuit and brushed up (rather lightly I might add) to the pit-wall and broke off my front wheel which dragged my car to a halt; something which left my completely silent and with my mouth hanging open for about 2 minutes! Hilariously enough though, as my stricken car ended up across the start/finish line before it self-retired, I actually kept my position (12th) in the classification due to everyone else being a lap down.
All in all, an interesting race it would've been both easy and nice to do better in. At the end of the day though it was fun and I'm looking forward to doing a lap in Monaco with the rest of you next week!
