@LMP2 Le Mans Series 2021/S1 Gents, I very well might be missing the start of this race as I have another commitment that chews into my sim racing time. So to that end, I am posting my pre-race notes here for all to read. I will be connected to the server before hand so I will be able to record the replay of Lap 1 for the Orange Zone review, although I fully anticipate this group of amazing drivers to be on their fairest and best game EVER!!! RIGHT???

Administrative:

• Jerome has posted the Car Change thread due to iRacing enacting a BOP change to several GTE cars. You have until the 21st to make a change HOWEVER, you must announce your changes before this Tuesday's race if you plan on switching your car. If you simply show up in a different car without first having made your announcement, you will be disqualified from this round. (Not having read this thread will not be an acceptable excuse under any circumstances). So please make sure you remain on top of the changes and announce your intentions if you are switching cars.

Round 4 Daytona International

• Daytona is a high draft track with many overtaking opportunities.
  • As this is multi-class racing, I encourage you all to be keenly aware of your surroundings.
  • To the LMP2 drivers, the 40bhp reduction of power in the Dallara P217 now means that you DO NOT have that spectacular out of the corner jump you once had. So when planning an overtake on another car, even the GTE's, you need to be sure that you can get out of it cleanly and not cause a wreck.
• Remember that on lap 1, going into turn 1, you may want to consider backing up your braking point.
  • First, you're on cold tires (that's reason enough),
  • second, this is the highest point of contention for wrecks on the first lap because someone felt they could go deep into the braking zone and completely blow the apex or go off track or spin, etc. (DON'T BE THAT GUY).
  • Give one another space to race by not pinching to the inside or outside of the racing surface.
  • Remember we are being broadcast to a wide audience.
• Pit entrance can be tricky as you are nearly at your top speed when approaching the entrance to pit road.
  • I highly encourage everyone to practice pit entry before the race.
• Pit exit can be bit of a challenge as this deposits you onto the racing line heading into the first horseshoe turn.
  • Be mindful of cars on track and cars on track be mindful to cars exiting the pits. The cars exiting the pits have the right of way to the left side of the track. If someone is exiting as you're approaching the horseshoe, you need to stay to the right of the pit exit line. Simple.
• This is a reminder that everyone is to maintain radio silence on the public communication channels (@DRIVERS,@ALLTEAMS) unless it is to announce pit entry or exit or a wreck on track. BUT THAT"S IT!!!
• Try and announce your pit entry and exit if possible to avoid confusion and possible incidents.
• Remember that flashing your lights at another driver while you are heads up racing for position is a protestable offense and can result in the offending driver receiving a penalty for it.
  • The only circumstance where a driver should be using his flashers is if you are lapping a slower class car or someone within the same class and you are announcing your intention to pass. Still, proceed with caution.

I was considering to switch to the Ford, and when I tried it, I was 1.5sec. slower than my Porsche lol. So sticking to Porsche.

The Ford is flat out not competitive at Daytona. I practiced all week, looked at other times, looked at the races, etc. Best I could manage was 0.6s off the fast times. It simply cannot pull up to the Porsche's in the draft.

We are not allowed to go below the yellow line to complete a pass correct? I believe this is a protestable offense in iRacing but it's not something that is automatically flagged as a penalty by the game.

You're allowed to use the apron in the tri-oval and non-banked areas, but cannot rejoin unsafely.

Fun race, I did a GTE dirty the first go around, red and black porsche. I am sorry.

Well, I knew it was going to be bad, and it was. LOL. Performance wise anyway. You just can't be 2mph slower on top end and compete at Daytona. When Josh Rogers has the slowest time of the 4 VRS cars, you know you're in trouble, haha. I had that thing with 0 wing and 12.5mm of rake and still couldn't do anything with it. It's like it hit a wall at 183mph...

I shot myself in the foot right off the bat by qualifying bad. I shouldn't have changed the gear. Worked good in the race, but not for qualifying. Ran out of time to switch it back.

I have NO idea what happened on the start. Did everyone jump it or something? I got caught napping a bit but I swear the outside did a stutter step then went... Next two laps guys were pitting so I assume they got drive throughs.

Congrats Uthman! If I'm not mistaken that's 4 different winners in the first 4 races. Great job!

Apologies to Boris... I think. I was not throwing the block on you. Totally screwed my braking point for T1. Locked the left front up for a hundred yards.

Great race Ted. When you made that mistake in T1 on the last lap I had to send it at the horseshoe and hope I could make it stick and fend you off. Thank you for giving me room there. I knew coming out of the chicane on the last lap I was done for. I thought about really trying to run you up the track but decided just to give you a little faint. Last lap ain't no one lifting and I'd rather take P8 the have a pile of carbon fiber shards.

Hi to everyone.
First of all , congrats to winner and podium guys! Grate race!

I dont know what happend at the beginning off te race. I started to accelerate after leader does, but a few seconds later , cars in front of me started to slow down.
I gain 2 or 3 positions , when sudenly, a black flag appears with the follow message.
"Hold for 1second. Passing with yellow flagg." Or something similar to that.
2 laps latter ( following the spotter indications) I went to pits to complay the sanction. when I stop de car , the mesagge chsnged to 26seconds. Wtf???
Unbeliaveble!!!!
Could any one help me to understsnd what was happend?

If you feel there was a bug you can send a replay to the iracing support email.

As for penalties, I don't know why people were penalized. Maybe for passing cars in the row in front of them before the green lights went off?
