Pre-Race Notes
Okay Gents, we've made it through the first two rounds and are now headed in to complete the first third of the 2020 Season 3 GTE at Watkins Glen - Boot Layout. Watkins Glen is a fast paced circuit with sweeping turns, a notorious bus stop chicane and the infamous uphill esses. Tonight's race should provide plenty of excitement for our drivers as they battle for points and positions.
Racing at Watkins Glen
Most of you have some good experience racing at Watkins Glen. We raced here last season so this season is in essence no different as it pertains to the expected conduct of our drivers. As is the case with any venue that we visit, we caution you that on lap 1, your tires are going to be less than optimal so headed into turn 1 we ask that you give each other enough space to race. If you have someone to the inside or outside of you as you make that turn in, BE MINDFUL AND KNOW YOUR SURROUNDINGS.
Likewise, heading up the esses for the first lap has caught many a driver of guard as there is always the possibility of losing the rear end of the car, especially if you tend to run a loose setup. While going two wide through the esses is doable, we advise against it. If at all possible, and you are able to, form into a single line as quickly as possible to promote safer racing through the esses. Please do not attempt to go three wide through this section of the track by any means. This will only end in disaster. Also through the bus stop on the first couple of laps whil everyone is scrapping for position can be daunting. Again, give each other enough space to race. Keep an eye on your relative to know where your competitors are in relation to your vehicle.
Pit entry coming out of the last corner typically means that you might be carrying a lower rate of sped out of the final turn. If possible, please announce your intentions to enter pit road in the event you have cars behind you so that they can be made aware and not ram you as you attempt to slow going in for service.
Upon pit exit, we advise you to be mindful of your relative box and know where the cars out on track are in relation to you. The racing line coming out of pit road belongs to the cars on track. Stay to the right hand side of the racing surface!!! Before you even make an attempt to merge onto the racing line, make sure that you will not impede any car already out on the race course. Likewise for the cars racing on track, be mindful of the cars exiting pit lane as you will encounter a noticeable speed difference and the closing rate can be quite fast.
The rest of the Watkins circuit is fair game for battling, overtaking and drafting. There are ample overtake opportunities here so it is incumbent on you to make it work in your favor.
Final Thoughts
This is just a reminder that the GTE series is broadcast to a live audience via the GSRC channel. We expect for you to do your absolute best out there and put on a good show for those who are watching. We also encourage you to tell your family and friends about your online racing. Invite them to watch the live broadcast or if you stream via Twitch, YouTube, etc., invite them to watch live. It can only work to the benefit of growing our community here at PRL.
So with that, we want to wish everyone good luck out there tonight. That is all.
