Tuesday Night 9PM EDT: Project Cars 2 GT3 Season 10/Race 7 Sonoma Short
Qualifying was as tight as you could ask for upfront as the Top 3 drivers were only separated by .118 seconds, and it came down to the very last laps as well as time expired. When all the dust settled,
Chase Cavalier (Doge_With_It_420) was able to fend off
Kyle Spencer (KDawgHonda777) and
Dustin Kares (Dasidnii) to claim his first Career PRL Pole.
Vaughan Freeman (Chopz) and
Austin Taylor (Nascarfan48) rounded out the Top 5.
The defining move of the race happened right off of light.
Chase did not get the traction he needed off of the light, and was quickly passed by
Kyle and
Dustin.
Dustin would take the lead from
Kyle in Lap 2, and that would be all that
Dustin needed on the evening.
Dustin was able to build an early 11 second gap on the field as drivers were jockeying for position behind him, and he would maintain that gap for the rest of the race as he would claim his 3rd Victory in a row, and his 4th win in only 5 Career starts in the PRL.
Chase would have another slip up on Lap 1 and found himself back in 5th place by the time he crossed the Start/Finish line again. The young Ferrari driver was able to keep himself composed though, planned his attacks well, and drove himself back up the field to tie his Career-best finish of 2nd Place. The final spot of the Podium had major championship implications. Coming into the race,
Vaughan lead
Kyle in the Driver’s Standings by only 4 points. On Lap 5 and while in 3rd place,
Kyle would see an unfortunate game flaw cost him many positions in the race, and many points to
Vaughan in the championship battle.
Kyle’s car made contact with the wall on the exit of pit road, in between Turns 1 and 2. Instead of creating door panel damage, the wall sent
Kyle’s car flying and somersaulting many times into a catch fence. The damage was very extensive and
Kyle would no longer be in contention for the rest of the race.
Vaughan was there to take advantage of the situation and drove a very consistent race as he claimed 3rd Place for the 2nd race in a row.
Austin and
Rob Besaw (Xsyse) would round out the Top 5. While there were many passes throughout the race, there were not many drivers who were able to make huge gains from their starting positions. From that, we had a 3-way tie for the “Hard-Charger Award” for the race as
Dustin,
Rob and
PJ Vergnetti (Jajalynx) all went +2 on the race. In a small consolation prize,
Kyle would claim his 5th Career “Fastest Lap of the Race Award” after extensive repairs were made to his car.
After 7 of the 12 races in the Driver’s Championship,
Vaughan Freeman (Chopz) holds a 9 point lead over
Dustin Kares (Dasidnii).
Chase Cavalier (Doge_With_It_420) and
Kyle Spencer (KDawgHonda777) are also still very much in the Championship hunt as well, sitting 12 and 13 points behind
Vaughn.
After 7 of the 12 races in the Team Championship,
Victorious Secret {Vaughan Freeman (Chopz) and
Logan Hornbuckle (OneEyedLogo)} are tied with
Apex Motorsports {Kyle Spencer (KDawgHonda777) and
Peter T. (TwoToneTommy)}, though
Victorious holds the tiebreaker with more wins on the Season.
