American Nascar Heat PS4 Championship Season 2 - Round 21 Darlington Recap:

The Nascar boys had their most “Driver VS Track” race of the season, “The Track Too Tough to Tame” at Darlington.

Qualifying was as tight as the racing line is at Darlington, as the Top 6 drivers were all within a quarter of a second of each other. Mitchell Riggs (MithcMan009) picked up his league leading 5[sup]th[/sup] Pole of the season.  Rob Besaw (Xsyse) snagged the outside of Row 1, a PRL career best for himChristopher Herring (CJHerring), Adam Zemke (Zeke_H30) and Charles Sumner (Hootius) rounded out the Top 5.

The race started off with a few too many cautions than the league would have wanted, but it’s hard to place blame at a very unforgiving track like “The Lady in Black”. If damage could be turned on in this game, every driver in the field would have had their paint job smudged on the right side of the car, along the painting the Safer Barriers a wide variety of colors throughout the turns. As all the smoke cleared at the end of Lap 45 for Segment 1, Christopher snagged his league leading 7[sup]th[/sup] Stage winKyle Spencer (KDawgHonda777)Kyle Ely (Rocksson2Kyle)Rob and Charles rounded out the Top 5 respectively and earned the remainder of the Stage Bonus Points. The remaining 139 flew by at a pretty rapid pace, as we saw only 2 caution periods during that time frame (including the race ending on a 74 lap green flag run). The battle of survival saw Mitchell come away with his 4[sup]th[/sup] win of the year, followed by AdamChristopherRob and Kyle Ely rounding out the Top 5 respectively.

The top 10 finishing order was:
1st - Mitchell Riggs (MithcMan009) - 4[sup]th[/sup] win of the season. 3[sup]rd[/sup] Hat-Trick of the Pole, Win and Fastest Race Lap
2nd - Adam Zemke (Zeke_H30) - 6[sup]th[/sup] Top 5 of the season
3rd - Christopher Herring (CJHerring) - 9[sup]th[/sup] Top 5 of the season
4th - Rob Besaw (Xsyse) - 4[sup]th[/sup] Top 5 of the season
5th - Kyle Ely (Rocksson2Kyle) -  9[sup]th[/sup] Top 5 of the season
6th - Charles Sumner (Hootius) - 18[sup]th[/sup] Top 10 in 20 races this season
7th - Christopher Johnson (MeattyLoaf) - 6[sup]th[/sup] Top 10 of the season
8th - Brian Mosser (Brianmosser88) – 7[sup]th[/sup] Top 10 of the season
9th - Matthew Wilson (MattWilson20) - Top 10 in his first PRL league race
10th - Kyle Spencer (KDawgHonda777) – 12[sup]th[/sup] Top 10 of the season

Darlington had big implications on the Driver's Championship, but for better or worse depends on the outlook of the specific driver. The point’s leader going into the race was Michael Caterino (vWardude), who was out of town, but managed to start and park to receive incredible valuable points towards the championship (unlike Charles Sumner (Hootius), who was not able to do and missed Indianapolis completely 2 weeks ago). Charles was also unable to capitalize and take advantage of Micheal’s last place points as Stage Bonus Points and finishing positions were left on the table. Charles’ spring in his Thrustmaster throttle gave out during the race, and dropped him out of the Top 5 in the final 10 laps of the race, as he only gained 7 points on Michael. With 2 races to go, Michael has a 14 point lead over Charles. Even if Charles pulls off the Hat Trick and wins the Stages in the final 2 races, Michael’s lead is still enough for him to control his own destiny for the Championship. Christopher Herring (CJHerring) is on the outside looking in as he sits 30 points back of Michael, but still mathematically in the hunt for the Championship. The Battle for 4[sup]th[/sup] place incredible close after 21 races, as Aaron Webb (AaronWebb85), Kyle Spencer (KDawgHonda777)Adam Zemke (Zeke_H30)and Kyle Ely (Rocksson2Kyle) are only separated by a combined 9 points. With 2 races to go in the season, all 4 of the drivers can control their final point’s standings with strong runs.

1. I love eggs and I like my women in black. Maybe it will be something to help me end my season on a high note. I find Darlington to be a fun track but I don't think I have much experience with it on this game. I wonder who will earn their strips since it is a high line track known for getting the occasional wall rub.

2. Pit adjustment. I say this because I'm not expecting a massive change to how the cars run at the tracks as they do now. If it is more in depth than sure let's do customs, I like the challenge that they present and they add a little more realism but pit only also keeps the field closer together.

3. I like Stephen King, not a big fan of book reading as I do that enough for class and don't have the time or patience to read a long book and with Stephen King it might as well be called a super long book. However the movie adaptations are great and most follow the books from the ones I have read, favorite book 11/22/63. However, if I had to choose a favorite movie of his it has to be Stand by Me.

1. I was looking forward to this race all season but unfortunately I won't be able to race this one, it's looking like a start and park for me. My team has made it to Chicago for the championships to play for a share of $50,000, we won this tournament 2 years ago and place 2nd the year before. Wish us luck!

2. Ive always liked custom setups, last season when we had customs on for the first few races I felt like I was the fastest car out there, when we changed to Pit only, the field evened up a bit more. With that said, I'd like to keep it Pit only, it adds enough of a change and keeps things more competitive.

3. I'm a fan of his films, never much of a book guy though due to not being able to finish any book I ever read lol

1. Darlington!!!! How much are you looking forward to this one-lane wonder?
While not the fastest, I always seem to have some speed on the non-conventional tracks. While I am not the biggest fan of the track, I feel like I have Top 5 confidence. Though I am going to practice hard now to try and get every single point back that I can to close the gap as much as I can on War.

2. For Nascar Heat 2, would you like to see the league stay as a pit adjustment only league or would you be interested in a full-setup league?
I've always been a huge fan of full setups, but that is also because I don't play any other games and just race, so that gives me an advantage over most. I am fine enough with pit-only adjustments. I would only look to change the league setting if it was overwhelmingly in favor, not just a 50/50.

3. Taking the wife on Saturday to watch the Dark Tower. Do you enjoy Stephen King? If so, what is your favorite book?
Not huge on reading, but I have always enjoyed the Dark Tower series, so I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. I normally like the movie adaptations of his books (especially The Mist), the biggest disappointment though had to be Dreamcatcher.

I like the track on any other game, I cant keep it off the wall so Im looking forward to the next track.

Im on the fence for the league still as free time with a family is hard to come by, that being said fixed setup reduces time needed to make and test set-ups.

3. Taking the wife on Saturday to watch the Dark Tower. Do you enjoy Stephen King? If so, what is your favorite book?

Dark Tower looks good, I think King is good but he's not tops on my list

1. I got to say that Darlington is probably my worst track on this game. Normally I do pretty well at my worst tracks though so hopefully I can get a top5.

2. I would like it to stay as a pit adjustment league just because there is better harder racing this way. Everyone is around the same lap times.

3. I have no idea on what this is lol.

Well I needed a really good night to eat into War's lead, and my night couldn't have got much worse than what happened. As my PSN party heard me complain almost the whole time, the spring in my gas pedal broke so I had a stuck throttle for most of the race. While I may not have the single lap speed that some of the guys could put down, but if I would have been able to control the car the way I wanted to, I should have been able to break off consistent .2s and .3s and come away with a Top 3 finish.

Q: 9th
Everyone was quick. I couldn't quite get the time I wanted, but I had the speed. Just had issues with turn 2 the entire time and only got 2 decent laps.

R:7th
I felt I had a fast car, although lap time doesn't show that. I was able to lead a little and make passes. However, it seemed my pit crew was taking forever. I came in first during a round of pitstops and left 9th... Everyone pitted. I knew once I went two laps down under a pit cycle I knew my night was practically over. I mean it was over before that as I injured my ankle a few days ago and it had locked up to the point I could barely use the brakes. Parts of the broken track also got me as a hump coming out of pitstops got me loose and sent me up onto the racing surface in front of Zeke. The little bump on the start/finish line also cost me my turn 1 entry several times late in the race and I think it also sent me into Zeke when I was trying to let him pass. I'm just glad to finally get away from these unique tracks and get back to a somewhat cookie cutter track.

Q: 7th

R: 5th

I had a really bad car all night. I was fighting loose entry the whole entire race. I had to make a few adjustments during the race but just didn't help. From 4th in points to 7th in points it's a really close battle. I was in 5th but dropped back last week due that I couldn't race but I am looking forward of having a nice battle with Aaron, Kyle Spencer (KDawg), and Zeke.
