After running Fixed for a while now, what is everyone’s thoughts on going back to open setups? Personally I hope we go back to open setups at some point. I feel like with fixed setups I tend to just arrive and drive some weeks and am a little under prepared. With open setups I feel like I was more motivated to put in laps during the week as we built the setup. Plus I just miss being able to tweak my setup and try to find an advantage before and during the races. I’m interested to hear others thoughts on switching back to open setups.

I would like to say that I feel strongly that we should stay with fixed setups. It is a more fair way to race with a level playing field. The whole reason I joined this league is because it was fixed setup. Open setup racing is a different animal entirely, and a lot of people are having to buy their setups anyway. If it is a matter of too many cautions, I feel like there are other ways we could help solve that problem, like raising the iRating requirement.

Its too bad iracing doesnt have an option to allow pit adjusments in fixed setup. Take the green with the fixed setup but allow for wedge and tire pressure adjustments during the race. That would be a nice compromise

Open sets FTW! It’s a win win situation IMO. It forces ppl to put in more practice laps. The result of that will be better racing because drivers will have more laps on any given week, rather than just jumping in a race. Plus it will make everyone better as a whole, and should improve race craft. It just keeps everyone more involved and interested in racing when you know that you can make a difference by the work that you put in.

I, along with some others, joined this league because it is a FIXED league. There are plenty of open leagues out there. As for practicing during the week, it probably would be counterintuitive due to the fact that sets are adjusted throughout the week and by the end you’re essentially driving a whole new car and line. And to add to that everyone is buying the set ups from the same couple of places. Not arguing, just stating my case!

I agree with Lou. In my opinion and experience, I tend to practice less when it's open setup for several reasons.. There is always going to be someone with a better setup that's hard to compete with, and learning to drive different setups throughout the week becomes daunting. I came here to race, not see who can make the best setup. I understand why some enjoy it, it's just not for me.

Sorry for spamming this thread.. I have strong feelings about this. lol

The main reason official racing is so bad on the fixed side is because fixed racing teaches bad habits. Drivers realize they have the same setup as everyone else and just hop into a race with no practice. If you want the highest quality of racing in a league, it's going to be from open sets, I know from experience. It forces ppl to practice and improves the overall race craft of each driver and results in better racing. I'm not begging for open sets, I'll race either way. I'm just relaying my experience with leagues that I have participated in. Open sets push drivers to achieve higher standards and goals. Yes, racing with fixed setups can be fun too, but entices people to be lazy when it comes to practicing, learning how to drive a specific track, and practicing proper race craft.

Totally Agree I put in no time to practice a fixed league that I run in on Saturday due to it being a fixed league. Cream will always rise to the top regardless fixed or open.

Hey guys. I appreciate seeing all of you having this conversation and being able to take in your feedback and honest opinions. As of this point, we're gonna go ahead and stay Fixed to finish off the 2022 year since we do have the Playoff and Yearly Championship coming up. I will throw this little teaser out there, we are thinking about doing the Yearly a little differently in 2023, so with that would be the opportunity to look at if we want to go to back to open setups starting in S1, so look for the conversation to ramp up more during S4.

My main thing when setting up the league is what brings the most enjoyment out of it with the league predominantly being a returning crew and doing what I can to give you all the biggest bang for your buck since we are here for fun and pride.
