All @GTP/LMP2 Series 2024/S1 ,

This will be the home of all 2024 S1 driver briefings for our GTP and LMP2 Series. This will contain the written briefing and there will be an in-sim driver briefing around 15 minutes prior to the start of qualifying. Drivers are expected to enter the pits for the driver meeting to be sure everyone is listening unless otherwise instructed.

Now for some series notes:

  • Remember we are driving with the same drivers all season, show respect and courtesy both on and off the track. (Don't be a jerk.)
  • Expect big check-ups on lap 1 in hairpins. Don't get caught out, especially if you are mid-pack or further back.
  • Drivers are expected to hold brakes after loss of control and to rejoin the track safely parallel to the racing line and not perpendicular when at all possible.
19. Multi-Class Specific Rules
  • 1. All Multi-class series will run closed qualifying, duration and laps may vary between series.
  • 2. Race Starts
    • 1. The highest class driver on pole must maintain pace car speed and may start anytime after the pace car enters the pits.
    • 2. All other classes may leave a reasonable gap to the class in front and must maintain pace car speed and will only start on the green flag.
  • 3. Multi-Class Passing and Blue Flags
    • 1. Faster class cars must position their cars appropriately to indicate their intentions. If the car will be attempting a pass into a turn they must position their car properly inside and maintain that position throughout the pass. Moving directly in front of a slower class car into braking zones (where slower class cars are likely to be braking later) can be penalized if protested.
    • 2. Faster class cars must establish overlap into the braking zone prior to turn-in or back out and pass after the corner.
    • 3. Slower class cars are responsible for helping to create safe passing attempts by recognizing the pass and adjusting braking/entry to make the pass happen cleanly and quickly.
    • 4.Drivers are not permitted to setup a ‘pick’ with a slower class by blocking in a driver when passing and must leave space when passing as if the slower class driver was an extension of the edge of the track.
    • 5. Using headlight flashing in multi-class is permitted so long as it is a single flash to notify a slower class driver of your intention to pass. Constant flashing (rage headlight flashing) is not allowed and may be protested and penalized

@GTP/LMP2 Series 2024/S1

Pre-Season Round: Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Mosport)

Despite being a pre-season round, all PRL rules still apply. Protests will be allowed for the pre-season round, but no points penalties will be applied. Protests will be used for educational purposes, historical data, and/or handling severe infractions (intentional wrecking, etc.)

GTP Drivers will be allowed to change their selection between Pre-Season round and Round 1. The car selected in Round 1 will be your car for the season. See Sporting Regulations for requirements for a mid-season car change.

Track specific notes:

  • Thank iRacing for the improved grass model, as touching grass used to be a 1 way ticket to the wall. With this new grass model comes a new responsibility, if you leave the track surface please rejoin the track safely parallel to the racing line.
  • Expect early check-ups in Quebec Corner (T3) and very large check-ups in Moss Corner (5a-b) on laps 1 and 2. Drivers on cold tires will be braking earlier and fighting understeer.
  • Be aware of cars exiting the pits, you must leave space for these cars when opening up your entry into Turn 1.
With all that said, a hearty welcome to new and returning drivers alike. I am very happy to have this series back on the calendar a second season after a successful first season.

Happy Holidays!

@GTP/LMP2 Series 2024/S1

Round 1: Long Beach

Welcome to round 1 of our 2nd ever GTP/LMP2 season. After Round 1 I feel compelled to remind all drivers that voice chat is not to be used during Qualifying or the Race for anything beyond a quick 'sorry' or 'pitting in'. I will have a quick trigger to mute for all if necessary.

Track specific notes:

  • Race start will be single file through the hairpin, any drivers breaking this can be protested. I will make multiple reminders tonight to this effect... there are no excuses.
  • Lap 1 will see large check-ups throughout, we have a very large field... if you are in the back half of the field you will see big check-ups... be prepared and be safe.
  • If you are caught in an incident and receive significant damage or are turned around facing the wrong way at a bad part of the circuit... don't be a hero, take the tow... these things happen.
  • It is possible to fuel save at this circuit and not pit, there are no rules (currently) against this in PRL. Drivers are permitted to attempt this strategy so long as they follow all other rules while doing so.
  • Drivers are permitted to extend the exit of the final turn to start their qualifying laps as due to the design of the circuit their is extended run off but it is not a 1x, slowdown, or curb to identify the end of the circuit.
  • Pit entry is very abrupt, drivers should practice pit entry and also be aware of any driver who may be attempting a pass to the inside. Make your intentions clear before entering the pit so as to not cause an incident.
  • Pit exit carries you onto the outside entry of T1, drivers entering T1 while a driver is exiting the pit are required to leave enough space for those drivers re-entering the track. Drivers exiting the pits should hold the outside into T1 to hold a predictable line.
  • GTP Drivers, there has been a bug with ERS deployment resulting in ERS sitting at 100% and not deploying. The best I can tell this seems to occur while in Balanced mode and impacts all GTP cars. If you find yourself in this situation, I have seen reports that toggling between different ERS modes seems to get it deploying again.

Most importantly, this is round 1 of a 9 race season... have fun but also understand in a very packed field that incidents and accidents are going to happen. Many differences can be settled with a simple apology and some self reflection. Put on a good show!

Round 2: Watkin Glen International - Boot

A subtle reminder that voice chat will be enabled during the race but I will not hesitate to disable voice chat for all if there is any voice chat abuse. Please only use voice chat for quick sorry, thank you, and pitting in announcements. Your accident is not an exception to this rule.

Another reminder for GTPs when passing LMP2s prior to braking to be cautious moving directly in front of LMP2s into braking zones as they often can brake a little later...

Track specific notes:

  • Watkins Glen often presents great racing but also great accidents. The lap 1 places of note is Turn 1 and all through the esses leading into the bus stop. Please be aware of your car positioning and leave space.
  • As always on lap 1 please expect check-ups if you are mid-pack or further back and adjust your braking appropriately. Incidents on lap 1 have larger penalties if protested
  • Please be prepared for pit entry, pitting early with someone behind you can present a risk if you do not position your car well as you must take a tighter line
  • The bus stop will be the source of deaths, drivers are expected to hold their brakes in an incident and if they are able to resume they must do so by rejoining the track safely parallel to the racing line
  • Race smart, race clean, enjoy the high speed high downforce corners and try to survive the bus stop.

Round 3: Daytona Road Course

First off shout out to all who may have participated in the 24 hours of Daytona race over the weekend.

Track Specific Notes:

  • Lap 1, expect check-ups and potential incidents in T1 and massive check-ups throughout the infield on lap 1. Please prepare to adjust your brake markers appropriately, remember lap 1 incidents are penalized more heavily when protested and upheld.
  • Watch for off tracks (looking at you bus stop) as we only allow 13x before a drive through and 17x for a DSQ in the series.
  • As always, multi-class should work together to make classes clean and appropriate.
  • If you are involved in an incident in the infield (or anywhere for that matter), rejoin the track parallel to the racing surface. Bind that toggle traction control key and get your car rotated the right direction safely in the grass.

Good luck everyone!

Round 4 - Nürburgring Gesamtstrecke Long

Qualifying has been extended to 20 minutes and will start 10 minutes earlier than usual. This should allow all drivers 2 full laps for qualifying.

Track Specific Notes

  • GTP drivers who are less experienced here and slower than any LMP2 drivers should be prepared to yield track position to LMP2 leaders with more pace.
  • Be prepared to brake a little earlier when following close, there are a variety of experience level of drivers tonight and there may be some more conservative braking happening for some. Please don't let yourself get caught when in the mid-pack.
  • If you wreck, hold your brakes throughout the incident and take a tow as quick as possible. It's also incredibly important to respect local yellows and slow down at a reasonable rate (don't slam on your brakes with someone right behind you) to avoid turning a small incident into a big one.
  • Patience is key, forcing 2 wide in some of these sectors is a death wish. Know when to yield and look for a better opportunity.
  • Have a good time and enjoy the circuit, we'll be back to our normally scheduled circuits next week at Sebring.

Round 5 - Sebring International Raceway

Welcome to the halfway point in the season, after Round 5 drop rounds will begin displaying in the results spreadsheet.

Track Specific Notes:

  • Be considerate on the race start, we often see large incidents on the exit of T1 from drivers sending it 3-4 wide. Drivers found at fault if protested will receive hefty penalties for lap 1 incidents and can incur additional penalties for additional drivers impacted.
  • Expect big backups in T3, and the hairpin (T7) on lap 1.
  • Multi-class passing will require consideration from BOTH classes.
  • Pit exit will place you on the racing line, drivers must leave space for drivers re-entering from pit exit and will be held responsible if space is not left.
  • Position your car appropriately in the sunset bend if pitting in, hold a tighter apex so traffic behind you is clear on your intention. This is especially important if someone is near you, same class or not. Announcing pit-in over voice is permitted is voice has not been disabled due to abuse but appropriately making your intent clear with your car is far more important.
  • Track re-entry is incredibly important as there are a number of places to go off track, please rejoin the track parallel to the racing line.
Good luck all! The upcoming season series line-up will be announced soon along with the schedule for next season sign-ups.

Round 6 - Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello

Welcome to round 6 at Mugello, if you haven’t seen already all returning drivers (at least 3 races completed) are elgible to sign-up for next season. Non-returning drivers will be elgible to sign-up next Sunday evening.

Gentle reminder - I prefer to keep voice chat available, please don’t abuse it.

Track specific notes:
  • As always expect check-ups throughout the first lap, adjust your brake points appropriately.
  • Be cautious with off-tracks, reminder we give drive through penalties at 13 and DSQ at 17.
  • You all know what to do at this point, and we’ve had a solid first half of the season. Let’s continue to respect one another or be predictable with multi-class traffic (both classes.)
Good luck and enjoy the race!

Round 7 - MotorLand Aragón - Motorcycle Grand Prix

Welcome to Round 7 at MotorLand Aragón! I'd first like to announce that sign-ups for all series are open to everyone effective yesterday.

Track Specific Notes:
  • Aragon is another track where off tracks come in bunches, be mindful of the PRL limits (13 for drive-thru and 17 for a DSQ)
  • Expect check-ups in T1 , T5, T7, and T8 on the first lap
  • 2 wide in T16 could be treacherous on the outside, consider self preservation if someone has a strong move on you on the inside of the back straight.
  • Expect all LMP2s to all be lapped by at least the GTP leaders once, as always work together to make multi-class passes as clean and safe as possible.
Good luck to all!

@GTP/LMP2 Series 2024/S1

Round 8 - Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

Welcome to Round 8 in Montreal. GTP positions are filling up for next season, still quite a few LMP2 spots open. Don't forget to sign up!

Track Specific Notes:
  • Pit Entry! - Plan your pit entry appropriately. Montreal Pit entry allows a much later braking than taking the racing line, if you are pitting and the car in front is not then you must slow down and avoid contact prior to pit entry. Try to plan a time when there is plenty of space in front of you or plan to slow down accordingly.
  • Space must be allowed during the race for drivers entering the track from pit exit.
  • Expect early braking for mid pack and further back throughout the first lap, especially in the hairpin.
  • If you find yourself 2 wide down the Casino Straight heading to the chicane and you are not the leading driver and it is not the final lap... please consider self preservation and back out.
  • The Wall of Champions takes no prisoners...
Good luck all!
