Discord is the software we use for voice communication during races, and is mandatory for everyone (PC only).  If you are not connected to the Discord server, you shall get a penalty.

Note that Discord is mandatory for PC only. Console drivers can connect to Discord but will not be penalize if they are not connected.

Discord can be downloaded here: https://discordapp.com/

Once installed, go through your user settings at the bottom and make sure you select Push-To-Talk in the Voice & Video settings.  You can map your Push-To-Talk button to anything including a button on your steering wheel.  Please don’t map it to a button that you will be using regularly for something else such as typing as everyone will else will hear a click every time you use that button while typing something.

Click here to get the invite link and join the server

With Discord, there is no Whisper functionality. If you want to talk privately with your teammate, you must find your own way to communicate.

If you are running your game with "Run as administrator" feature of Windows, you must also run Discord with that feature otherwise your push to talk will not work.

Once connected, ensure you join the appropriate channel for your game. There are also 5 practice channels you may use at any time.

Discord specific rules

[ul]
[li]Games channels (IRACING, F1 20XX, PROJECT CARS & NASCAR HEAT) must be use only for official PRL races. Organisers have all right to kick you out if you are not racing in their championship races. All across games and platform that we support, we don't have any championships that overlap each other.[/li]
[li]If you want to hangout or practice with PRL members, you must use practice channels.[/li]
[li]PRL Discord server must be use for racing purpose only. You can't invite your friend to play other games. You can invite your friends that are not racing at PRL to talk racing if you want though![/li]
[li]Why there is no text channels? We have disabled text channels because we want the PRL community to use the forum instead. Also, by disabling text channels, we remove moderation duties to PRL staff.[/li]
[li]PRL official site rules apply to Discord.[/li]
[/ul]

In the event that the PRL Discord server is unavailable, in-game voice chat shall be used as a backup communications solution.

So I have a question, my team has a Discord server that we use for our internal communication. Is it mandatory that all drivers remain in the PRL Discord server during an event?

If this is the case, then I propose that PRL generate a voice channel for each team participating. IRacing comms are less than desirable for effective race communications between teammates and you cannot join two Discord voice servers.

Yes, Discord use is mandatory. We are discussing options but we have nothing set in stone at the moment. I will forward you comments to the management team.

That would be fantastic. If help is needed I am willing to assist.

The best way to implement this is one channel per team. In the case of my team SRT eSport having four cars, one channel would suffice for all 8 drivers. You assign permissions per channel so that other members outside of that specific team are not jumping in and out of voice channels they do not belong in.

This is quite simple to implement and as I stated, I can offer assistance if needed.

But to have everyone bunched up into one channel during a race just isn’t sound in practice outside of the mandatory drivers meeting.

Hi Ken, like Cory said, yes it is mandatory to be on Discord. It's mainly in case we have something urgent to share during the race. It's rarely happening, but when it does, it's better to have everyone on Discord.

Tonight, just ping me and I will create a team channel for you 😊

Last time this came up the reason given was so commentators could easily pull people in for interviews and whatnot. That wouldn't be a problem if folks were just in different channels.

What's the issue with mandating in-game radio be enabled for full-field race control announcements?

Also, BRT would like a team channel too please. :)

Hi Pete, ping me tonight and I'll create your channel!

There is another reason why we want everyone on the same Discord, it's simply to develop friendship between each other, talk about the race after the race, not just being a bunch of guys who race each other every week! Also, if there is an incident with another driver, after the race, we are all on the same server so both impacted driver can talk to each other.
