PRL Stewarding Update - 2020S2 Road Series

Post by TRG » Mon Mar 16, 2020 8:20 pm

Hi all,

Just wanted to take the opportunity to update everyone to some changes to the stewarding program here at PRL as we begin 2020 Season 2 on the road side of things. Oval guys, please disregard unless you fancy the odd right turn or two, if you can handle it.

Penalty Matrix
We have put some of our past experiences over the last few years to work and come up with a new penalty matrix for this season. It is posted below. You'll notice that some of the penalties are stiffer. The idea here is to discourage some of the repeat behaviors that we tend to see season after season. As always, the penalty matrix acts as a general guideline of what to expect from us. We reserve the right to expand outside of the published matrix as required. It is incredibly difficult to classify each and every incident the same, as many factors often come together to create a situation.

Note that there are essentially 3 types of penalties - time penalties, points penalties, or DSQ/Start from the pits penalties. We also have car-multiplier penalties that apply if more than 1 driver is affected.

Protests
If you feel the need to protest an on track incident, you will have 72 hours from the start of the race to make your submission. We always encourage drivers to submit protests the next day after a cool-down as emotions can sometimes run high, but we will not enforce this.

*NEW* We will be posting publicly in the stewards report for each series when a protest is received. The aim is to put it on record that it was received and allow the protested driver to understand that they are being protested and perhaps learn for the next race through self-study.

It is our goal to have protests ruled upon prior to the next race. Note that this is a goal, not a promise as we are all volunteers doing this on our own free time. There will be times that we do not meet this goal due to personal factors, complexity of the incident, number of active protests, etc,.

Appeals
Just like a protest, drivers will have 72 hours from the time of posting of a ruling to appeal and make their case. Appeals later than 72 hours will be denied.

If anyone has questions or comments, feel free to reach out to me via PM or Discord.

It's nothing ground breaking. Just trying to eliminate repeat offenders.

The effort of the admins who volunteer all this time for details like this is truly appreciated. It's really what make the racing experience cool.

I will echo the appreciation for this. I am curious if consideration was given to applying more severity if a collision is caused on the first lap? I only see "If in the closing laps" mentioned.

Thanks for the comments, gentlemen.

David - yes, we will absolutely factor in lap 1 incidents and apply extra severity as required on a case by case basis. Great question.

The portion mentioning the closing laps is to allow us to issue a time penalty to a driver.
