Stewards Reports, Protest & Appeal

Protest
  • All protests relating to a racing incident must be submitted within 48 hours of event completion. Protests that are submitted late will be dismissed.
  • We suggest drivers involved in an on-track situation to talk it over with one another first before turning in a Stewarding Protest. Take it upon yourselves to watch the replays, even in slow motion if needed.
  • Protests that are incorrectly submitted or late will be dismissed. Please contact the Chief Steward directly if you are having issues making a submission before the 48 hour time limit.
  • The driver being protested may be contacted by the Chief Steward if their PoV is deemed necessary, either by the website private message system or by email. The protested driver then has 48 hours to submit his/her own evidence. A ruling can be made by the Stewards without needing the Protested driver's PoV. 
  • The incident will be reviewed by the Stewards, and a decision will be announced in the respective championship’s "Stewards Reports" topic, along with the Incident ID.
Appeals
  • All appeals must be submitted within 48 hours of the publication of the Stewards Report as follows:
    • Send an email to stewards@precisionracingleague.com
    • The subject line must be in the following format: Appeal: [Investigation ID]
    • List your PRL username in the body text
    • Your e-mail must explain why you feel the initial decision by the Stewards was wrong.
  • Appeals shall be reasonable, logical, based on sound evidence, and related to the PRL Racing Rules.
  • Appeals that are frivolous, incorrectly submitted, or late will be dismissed.  Repeated appeals of this nature will result in disciplinary action.
  • Only one appeal per incident is permitted.
  • The Appeal will be reviewed by an extended PRL Stewarding team, and a decision will be announced in the respective championship’s Stewards Reports thread.
  • If a driver loses 2 Appeals in a 30 day period, they will have a 60 day ban placed on them before being able to Appeal another ruling by the Stewards.
Penalties
  • The penalties that can be awarded for infractions of the rules include time penalties, points deductions, position penalties, race disqualifications, grid penalties, race suspensions, or you may be made to start the next race from the pits.
  • More severe penalties may be given in some circumstances.  The PRL Stewards reserve the right to award any penalty they feel is appropriated.
  • Some protests will result in a warning rather than a penalty, but a second warning within 3 months may result in a penalty.

Round 2 - Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace (Sept 26)
[ID: 792] The stewards investigated a collision between Fransisco Montini and Daniel Zegers that occured at turn 4. In this situation, Montini finds himself in the middle of the track approaching the braking zone with Zegers trailing close behind. Zegers is tight to the right side of the track, but has no overlap. Several images have been included to break this incident down and explain the stewards' decision.
From Montini's cockpit: approaching the braking zone at 125m, a full car width is left on the right side of the track. The telemetry shows that at this point Montini has just begun to get off the throttle and is applying the first bit of brake. At this point, we have no problem as space has been left to the outside.

Again, from Montini's cockpit: we are now just past the 100m marker. As can be seen, Montini's car is now positioned more to the right to cover the racing line, and is also now completely off throttle and on the brakes. However, this braking point is much earlier than would be anticipated by Zegers. This is evident by the line of rubber 20-30m ahead.

At full race speed, this move would be next to impossible to predict and react to. The stewards have determined that the expected move for Montini would be to hold his line since he had already established his braking zone, and covered the apex to defend against Zegers. Based on the evidence shown here the stewards are awarding Francisco Montini a 3-point minor penalty for causing a collision.

Round 2 - Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace (Sept 26)
  • [Appeal ID: 792] The stewards received an appeal from Francisco Montini over the ruling on the above incident. After thoroughly reviewing the additional evidence and commentary provided, this appeal is denied. The move onto the racing line was late and began while Montini was already slowing the car. It is not reasonable to expect a following car to be able to anticipate or react to such a move, therefore the penalty stands as issued.

Round 3 - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Oct 3)
  • [ID 794] The stewards investigated an incident between Francisco Montini and Nathan Lewis on Lap 2. Lewis pulls along the inside of Montini just before the turn in point at turn 8 leaving plenty of room to the outside of the curve. Near the exit of turn 8, Lewis' car looks to hit a bump that appears to be netcode due to the proximity of the cars. This bump causes Lewis to understeer slightly to the middle of the track. At the same time, Montini is holding his line to setup the inside line on the next corner. In this incident, both drivers left ample room for the other car, and the contact was created by the apparent netcode. No penalty will be issued, this is a racing incident.

Round 4 - Road America (Oct 10)
  • [ID 796]: The stewards investigated a collision between Lionel Duprat and Aaron Webb at Turn 14. Entering the braking zone, Duprat was following Webb closely and created contact sending both cars into the tire barriers. For his actions, Lionel Duprat is at fault per PRL Racing Rule 7.3 and is assessed at 5-point minor penalty.
  • [ID 797]: The stewards investigated a collision between Fransisco Montini and Kyle Strycharz. Montini misses his braking point while attempting to pass Rodriguez and carries straight through the apex colliding with Strycharz. The stewards have assessed Montini a 8-point major penalty.

Round 6 - Nurburgring - GP w/o Arena (24 October)
  • [ID 798] The stewards investigated a collision between Daniel Zegers and Takeshi Kita at Turn 5 on Lap 19. Entering the braking zone, Zegers made a move to the inside but did not establish overlap. As he pulled back to the racing line, Zegers made contact with the rear of Kita's car sending him off into the gravel. The stewards have assessed Zegers a 3-point Minor penalty for causing a collision.

Round 8 - Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya - Grand Prix (Nov 07)
  • [ID 800] The stewards investigated an incident that occurred at the start of the race. As the lights turned green Lionel Duprat was slow off the line due to wheelspin. The wheelspin induced a yaw angle that positioned his car closer to the middle of the track. In an effort to correct, Lionel's car moved to the right. Due to the wheelspin, the cars behind were overtaking and as Lionel moved to correct the wheelspin he created contact with an overtaking car. Two additional cars were caught up in this chain of events. For his actions off the start, the stewards are issuing Lionel Duprat a 7-point minor penalty.
  • [ID 801] The stewards investigated an incident that occurred at the start of the race. Due to incidents ahead drivers ahead of Daniel Barnett had to check up to avoid a collision. Daniel failed to reduce speed and collided with a car ahead, collecting another car in the process. It is the responsibility of the driver behind to avoid a collision. The stewards have issued Daniel Barnett with a 5-point minor penalty.

Round 9 - Brands Hatch (Nov 14)
  • [ID 803] The stewards investigated an incident (Management Review) at the start of the race into Turn 1 involving Abner Acosta and Raymond Deux. After a thorough review of the evidence, the stewards have issued both drivers warnings and have ruled that this is a racing incident with no penalties issued.
  • [ID 804] The stewards investigated an incident on Lap 3 at the hairpin involving Takeshi Kita, Daniel Zegers, and Lionel Duprat. Daniel missed his braking point, but manages to clear the traffic ahead before hitting the wall. Lionel made contact with Takeshi as he was not expecting Daniel to come though at that point. However, after reviewing the evidence, the stewards voted unanimously in favor of ruling this as a racing incident. No penalties will be issued.

  • APPEAL [ID 800]: An appeal was submitted for incident ID 800 regarding the start of Round 8. This appeal has been denied. However, the stewards met and decided that the evidence provided was enough to remove the car multiplier from this penalty. Lionel Duprat's penalty will be reduced to a 3-point minor penalty.
